It is interesting to witness the successful retirement of Dr. Fati Sheikh Abdullah, the Director Disease Control and Immunization after spending 35 years of meritorious service to her father land. It is in deed, a joyful moment but for most of us who had the privilege of working directly with her, it is a sad and emotional moments. "ALUWO" as some of us called her is an erudite professional per excellent, epitome of leadership with an impeccable character. No wonder, despite heading a sensitive office such as immunization and disease control, she managed the office successfully without blemish comments from any quotas. Duaring handover ceremony, the Executive Director NSPHCDA, in person of Dr. Ibrahim Ahmed Dangana lauded the achievement of Dr. Fati Sheikh for discharging her responsibilities diligently when, she held sway as the Director of Immunization and disease control. The ED also, appreciated Dr. Fati for the innovations and professionalism she...

New Year Message 2021

Image
A  new year  is a powerful occasion: It’s a time when we reflect on our gratitude for the past and our hopes for the future. And it’s a chance to welcome a fresh start to reinvigorate our enthusiasm for chasing goals and dreams. With so much pressure on the moment, it can be hard to come up with just the right words to express new year wishes for friends, family, and cherished co-workers. (That can be especially true if the past year’s challenges still linger for your loved one.)  Wishing you and yours some well-deserved downtime and a very happy new year. Parm. Iliya Labam PM. SOML

The health of Nigeria remains very poor. The maternal and child health mortality rates in Nigeria are among the worst in the world. One of the major reasons for the poor health status is poor coverage with high impact interventions.  The use of community health workers has been identified as one strategy to expand access to health care services, especially in underserved rural areas. Using community members to render certain basic health care services to the communities they come from is a concept that has been around for at least 50 years. In Nigeria, community-based health care services are being provided by various categories of health care providers for several programmes, and under the auspices of different organizations. For example, there are community Oriented Resource Persons (CORPS) providing community integrated case Management of child Illness (iCCM) services, Voluntary Community Moilizers (VCM) involved in mobilization for polio, Village Health W...
