Elder Statesman and former Head of State, Gen Abdulsalam Abubakar fulfills pledge of strengthening PHC in Niger State
Elder Statesman and former Head of State, Gen Abdulsalam Abubakar had taken decisive steps towards fulfilling his pledge to partner with the Niger State Government through the State Primary Health Care Development Agency, under the leadership of the Executive Director, Dr Ibrahim Ahmed Dangana to strengthen Primary Health Care services especially in rural communities in the State.
It would be remembered that penultimate week, the Executive Director was received by the ex Head of State in his Minna Hill top Residence where they discussed at length issues concerning the PHC sector in the state noting significant progress amidst challenges.
Today, in fulfillment of his pledge, the ex Head of State donated and handed over vital hospital furniture such as patient waiting chairs, consulting chairs and tables along with direct cash funds for the purchase of drugs and other essential PHC equipment.
The Elder Statesman charged the Executive Director and top management of the Agency to ensure judicious utilisation of the items and continuously strive to meet the health aspirations of the populace they serve.
Receiving the donated money and furniture on behalf of the Agency, the Executive Director Dr Ibrahim Dangana in the company of the Director of Finance of the Agency, Alh Abubakar Isah, thanked the ex Head of State for his legendary benevolence and magnanimous support to the Agency and Primary Health Care Sector, especially coming at the time of Covid-19 pandemic which has imposed a lot of strain on the health care sector amidst dwindling resources.
The Executive Director further revealed that the Elder Statesman had earlier sent a team of Surveyors and Engineers to assess the state of one of the PHCs in Bosso LGA at Sabon-Daga of which the bill of Quantity totaling about six million naira for the maintenance and renovation works had been submitted to the head of State and the renovation works will commence in earnest.
He pledge to uphold the trust of the head of State and His Excellency, the Executive Governor Dr Abubakar Sani Bello towards revamping the health care sector and transforming it in line with 21st century standards.
